Tower captain 50 years ago, Bernard Stone, on bell 2 which bears his name: The inscription on bell 2 says: THE GIFT OF BERNARD J. STONE WHO NAMED ME GRACE; WHITECHAPEL 1972.
Churchwarden John Dewhurst came up to the tower to lead the ringers down to service; the new carillon chiming device behind him.
